Our Messages

Bill's Testimony

Founder Bill Henson's personal journey of discovering same-sex attraction, denying it, repressing it, trying to escape it and ultimately coming out. How he dealt with family, church and God. How he dealt with the far right and far left voices in our culture. How he fell in love. How God – later - intervened through a job relocation and a mission trip to bring him to surrender his same-sex relationship and sexual identity to Jesus at the Cross.

The FOTOS Vision

The story behind the creation of FOTOS Ministries, Inc. The story begins with an invitation to share my faith story to a group of 30 InterVarsity students at an Ohio college. This private chapter meeting developed into a campus wide event attended by over 750 people, including 350 GLBT students. The day was November 19, 2003 only hours after the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court legalized gay marriage. This story of our calling outlines the 'heart' with which we are called by Christ to those who feel judged by the church.

Campus Ministry Outreach: Case Studies

This presentation details three 'in the gay community' campus events that we've been part of including our participation at Brown University's Queer Religion Week - at the invitation of the gay community. It illustrates numerous "lessons learned" for effective and not-so-effective ways to reach out to gay communities on campus.

Eight Effective Relational Principles (Safe Church or Cast-the-Net)

After leveling the ground at the foot of the Cross and recasting a vision of the Culture War as the Great Harvest, this presentation outlines eight effective relational principles that dramatically impact the way Christians view evangelism. The message improves our response to homosexuals but does so in a holistic way: these principles apply to how we view, care for and extend Christ to ALL people who feel hurt by the church.

Church-Wide Outreach: Case Studies

This is usually a follow-up seminar to the one just above. The 'vision' sounds great....but does it work? Yes, it works. Bill shares examples of the fruit we are seeing.

Don't Look Back: Press On!

This message looks at different Bible characters that 'looked back' - Lot's wife, some potential disciples that had other priorities, and actual disciples who turned away from Jesus after some time of following Him. This is a convicting message about 'three powers' that tempt us to look back or even to go back. This is a good message to encourage people who have looked or gone back to their old way of living. We need to forget what is behind us (so to speak) and follow the Apostle Paul - to Press On.

Understanding What They Believe and Why

This session covers a complete compare and contrast of Gay and Biblical Theology interpretation of: (i) the key Scriptures that Gay Theologians claim as positive affirmation of same-sex sexual relationships; and (ii) the key Scriptures that describe such relationships as sinful. This presentation will help you compassionately understand the inside worldview of homosexual theology and equip you to relate better to homosexuals. This Biblical text analysis is thorough and yet sensitively done.

Does Jesus Address Homosexuality?

Liberal pastors and theologians say Jesus approves of homosexuality. Some even go so far as to say He was gay. Even many evangelical pastors often preach from the pulpit, "Jesus did not say anything about homosexuality". But the fact is...Jesus did address homosexuality. This is critical apologetic information for every Christian and Seeker. This intimate and comprehensive look into the teachings of Jesus Christ may surprise you. Evangelicals beware...there's something Jesus has to say to us as well.

A Long Process: Coming to Believe What I Now Believe

Can the church present Biblical convictions regarding same-sex relationships beyond the traditional 6 Bible verses that deal with homosexuality? Yes, we can. Can we do it compassionately? Yes, we must. There are all kinds of signals that give us clues into God's plan. This presentation is similar to Understanding What They Believe but it is more personal discovery than theology.

The Gospel in Community

How do we live out the Gospel in community? In what ways does our human brokenness get in the way? We go back to the beginning of Creation to explore just what happened the moment Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden. The brokenness that resulted touches every aspect of our lives. This exploration leads us toward recovery as we surrender our strength and find that God’s strength is perfected in our weakness. We find that we are spiritually sick: as eternal spirit beings, we can only get better via spiritual medicine. Our Great Physician offers us seven (7) prescriptions we need to live the free and abundant life promised. Presented in two sessions.

Five Life-Transforming Lessons of the Prodigal Father

This is a very interesting look at the interchange between Pharisees and Sinners from Luke 13-15 culminating in Jesus telling three stories about a Lost Sheep, a Lost Coin and a Lost Son. We learn, directly from Jesus, five life-transforming lessons about how our Heavenly Father draws prodigals home.

Refining Our Concept of Healthy Gender Identity

This presentation is designed for parents and Christian leaders who oversee the spiritual, emotional and physical development of children and teenagers. This material equips parents and leaders with a three-step model calling for Awareness, Assessment and Intervention. So many parents think 'healthy gender identity' is about sexual orientation. True health in gender identity includes but extends well beyond orientation: it encompasses one’s entire personal identity.

Family Care Seminar

This 1/2 day workshop ministers to the unique needs of parents and families who have adult or teenage loved ones dealing with gender or sexual identity issues. Families are radically transformed from ‘church culture’ toward a Biblical vision and mandate for relational connection and evangelistic outreach to their loved ones.

Gay & Evangelical Voices: Two Views, One Dialogue

This panelist session is specifically designed to yield mutually respectful sharing between the GLBT Community and Evangelicals. EVERYONE is welcome (including those who do not identify as Christian). This session allows panelists from all sides of the homosexual issue to share their own personal story. The Moderator then asks a series of questions. Finally, the audience is given time to ask their own questions. This highly interactive session has proven to bring a spirit of peace to an issue that often elicits anger and frustration. FOTOS defers the Moderator role to the GLBT Community. Our policy: we offer this session only when invited by the Gay Community. We presented this workshop during Brown University's Queer Religion Week.

High School Safe-Church Initiative

Our teens should know - without a doubt - that we love and accept them and that our church is a "home" where they can explore their faith, share their struggles and receive our support no matter what they are dealing with. This material can be included in our Leadership Training of church and para-church ministry leaders.

The Mirror

Why do I so easily see the blind spots in others while even more easily missing my own? Is liberal theology all wrong? Is conservative theology all right? Are gay activists really the force of evil that I so often hear described on the religious airwaves? Are televangelists really the neanderthal hatemongers that I so often hear described in secular media? It is time we take a real hard look at our true identity and find out who Christ calls us to be to others in a world full of Culture Wars. It's time for us to take a close look into The Mirror.
